How to Lose Fat Fast

Three methods to help you lose fat faster.

Fat loss is difficult. I lost 50kg, and it took me two and a half years. But before that, I tried and failed for over seven.
Looking back now, I can see the simple changes I could have made to speed up my fat loss journey.
How? By managing my environments better.

1. Your Kitchen

The first environment is your kitchen.

As you know by now, nutrition is more important than anything else when it comes to fat loss because it’s the easiest way to create a calorie deficit—burning more calories than you consume. There are two ways to create a calorie deficit: either eat less or move more.

Let’s say you want to burn 300 calories. The number of calories you burn depends on your body weight, age, gender, and other factors, but generally, you’d have to exercise for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, if you want to eat 300 fewer calories, all you need to do is eat one less chocolate bar a day (most chocolate bars in the UK are around 250 calories).

In other words, food choices matter. If you spend half an hour exercising to burn 300 calories, then later in the day you eat a chocolate bar, you’ve canceled the calories out. So you can exercise all you want, but if you’re making the wrong food choices, you won’t lose fat.

However, you can make it easier to make the right food choices. Here are two simple steps:

  1. Create your own space in the kitchen – Have a shelf in the pantry and fridge that is yours. No one else can eat from there, and you can’t eat from anywhere else.

  2. Fill that space with healthy food only – Before you go food shopping, write down what you’re going to buy. Then, once you get to the store, activate tunnel vision and only buy what’s on your list.

Now, every time you go to the kitchen, the only options are healthy ones, making it easier to stick to your fat loss plan.

2. Your Living Spaces

To get in shape, keep your living spaces tidy.

There are three problems with having a messy environment.

The first is that it reinforces the belief that you’re lazy. Let’s say you have piles of clothes in your room, empty bottles lying around, and everything is everywhere. That is a lazy person’s environment. As we know, laziness is a reason why people are overweight. So wouldn’t it make sense that if you break the belief that you’re lazy by keeping your living spaces tidy, it would make it easier to do the things needed to get in shape, like eating healthy and going to the gym?

The second problem is that a messy environment clutters your mind. Everyone’s minds nowadays are already so busy. We have social media, the news, TV shows—there’s so much going on. Add a messy environment on top of that, and it just adds to the stress. It makes it harder to get things done. That’s why a cluttered environment leads to a cluttered mind and, ultimately, a cluttered body. Another reason why we should keep our living spaces tidy.

No one wants a messy living room or bedroom—it’s always in the back of our minds to get it tidied. But we keep saying we’ll do it later, and that is the third problem. I’m a big believer in how you do anything is how you do everything. So if you have the “I’ll do it tomorrow” mindset when it comes to being tidy, you’ll have that same mindset when it comes to fitness.

To break out of it, simply keep your living spaces tidy. That will develop the “I’ll do it now” mindset, and that will help you in your fat loss journey.

3. Your Phone

Your digital environment is just as important when it comes to fat loss. Today, we’ll talk about apps.

Earlier, we went over how to restructure your kitchen. By creating your own space and filling it with healthy foods, you remove the temptation to make the wrong choices. You can do the same with your phone.

Delete any food delivery apps like UberEats and Deliveroo. You should also delete apps like Netflix that could cause you to procrastinate. Then, replace those apps with ones that will make your fat loss journey easier—calorie trackers, workout planners, and journals. Or you could just do what I do and use the preinstalled notes app.

If you’re not intentional with the apps you use, your phone can get in the way of losing fat. But if you are intentional, it can make your fat loss journey easier.

Conclusion

Working out and eating healthy are the key factors in losing fat.

But you can make your fat loss journey easier by managing your environments better.

If you align everything toward your goals, you’ll reach them faster.
